TANTALIZING TANGERANG, INDONESIA

Located a little over 20 km from Jakarta, the bustling satellite city of Tangerang provides a unique juxtaposition of aesthetics & culture: contrasting a raw and industrial present with an enchanting, and often turbulent, past. 1. Jin de yuan temple

The most important temple and the oldest in the city, this Buddhist Chinese temple dates back to 1755. The two dragons on the roof are shown to be eating pearls. The temple has exquisite carvings and fine calligraphy around the pillars.

 

2. Thousand doors mosque

This grand mosque of Tangerang dates back to the Banten Sultanate and is popular because of the plethora of doors it has. Designed by a Dutch architect, there are two towers on the front side. After takeover, the Japanese converted a part of this building into a dungeon. Many a battle between the Japanese and Indonesians has said to be fought here.

 

3. Anyer beach

Located on the west coast, the holiday resort of Anyer has a lovely range of pristine, sandy beaches, spread along an equally scenic coastline with the Anyer lighthouse in the background.  The lighthouse was erected in memory of those who lost their lives when the Krakatoa volcano erupted in 1883. Various water sports activities are available for the adrenaline junkies, ranging from windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, water skiing and more.

 

4. Situ Cipondoh

A picturesque spot with a beautiful lake is a must visit attraction for families with children. With plenty of other outdoor activities on offer, Situ Cipondoh will simply mesmerise all nature lovers.

 

5. Jalur Pipa Gas

The perfect place for outdoor activists, Jalur Pipa Gas, or the mountain bike park, has 6.5 km of varying cycling track. The terrain offered is from moderate to difficult so more suited to mountain bikes. At places, the ride tends to get a bit arduous, with a roller coaster-like motion.

 

6. Ocean park

The largest water park in south-east Asia, Ocean Park attracts individuals and families from all over the country and beyond. The replica of Disneyland, the park’s water slides and pools are a great solution for those travelling with little ones. Situated on Jalan Raya Serpong, the park features loads of other water activities, comparable with the best anywhere.

 

7. Tangerang city mall

Though Tangerang boasts of some of the best malls in Indonesia, the city mall here has no rival. This latest addition to the shopping scene of Tangerang hosts, kiosks, spas, fitness centres, cinema and children playgrounds. Located in the heart of Tang City, you’d be hard pushed to think of anything they don’t sell here. The mall is also very popular as it is right on the way to the International Airport.
